Day of Prayer for our Church and Community on Saturday 24th Nov

To mark the beginning of a whole week of prayer across the South Forest Deanery we are holding a special Day of Prayer to give praise and thanks to God and to intercess for our church and community. The day will be interspersed with times of organised worship, held at each of the three churches in the Parish and incorporating different traditions to cater for the wide ranging tastes.

  • The day will start with traditional Morning Prayer at 10am at St Michael's Church, Tidenham Chase.
  • At 12 noon there will be Midday Prayer, following the monastic tradition, at St Mary's, Tidenham.
  • There will be an act of worship specially designed for families and children at 2pm at St Luke's, Tutshill.
  • At 4pm, there will be a Taize style service, complete with candlelight, again at St Luke's.
  • And the day will end at St Luke's with a final act of praise at 6pm, using contemporary songs and music.

Following each of these corporate acts of worship, the church buildings will remain open for the next two hours for individual silent prayer. There will be displays to give guidance and pointers for prayer and church members will be encouraged to sign up for time slots to ensure that there is continuous prayer through the day.

Once launched, the week will continue with said morning prayer at 9.30am, Monday to Friday, at Tidenham Church. The Deanery will join together for a final act of praise and worship at St James' Church, Bream on Friday 30th November, gathering at 6.30pm for  7.30pm service.

Each parish has been asked to share two or three items for thanksgiving and also some pointers for specific prayer. At this exciting new phase in our parish life our prayer pointers include:

  • Thanks for all God's blessings and his  protection and guidance through the Vacancy and his answer to our prayers with the appointment of Rev David Treharne as Vicar;
  • Thanks for the opportunities opening up for engaging more with our community - Youth drop-in, Toddlers, additional care home services, CU at Wyedean,
  • Thanks for another Alpha course running this term and God changing lives.
  • Prayer for David as he becomes accustomed to his new role, for developing relationships with the those in the church and community and for strength and stamina and rest.
  • Prayer that we would discern God's voice as we seek his will for the future vision, development and oureach and that we would be united as we move forward together
  • Prayer for all the services/events/activities over the Christmas season that we would reach out with the Good News of Jesus to many on the fringes and beyond and that God would nurture the seeds sown.
