Churches Together Alpha Initiative

Each September there is a joint supper party, hosted somewhere in Chepstow town e.g. Wetherspoons, Beaufort Hotel, where people bring their friends to find out about the course and to hear testimonies of those who attended the previous one.

The churches join together for the prayer initiative in support of the new launch, including a 24/7 prayer vigil and a dynamic evening prayer event.

Each church in the town plans their own group, often on different days or evenings, arranging leaders, venues and hosts. The groups join together again for the residential weekend half way through the course. This is usually held at Cefn Lea in Mid Wales, a Christian conference centre.

Youth Alpha

The Tidenham Parish Youth Minister has been actively involved in the Churches Together Youth Alpha initiative, co-ordinating the leadership team drawn from a number of Chepstow churches. Most recently in 2009 over 25 youngsters from seven different church communities, in school Y10 and above, came together with their friends to explore what it means to be a Christian. We received a generous grant from Deo Gloria to help resource the course and to subsidise the costs of catering and we are fortunate to be able to use the Rainbow coffee shop as a venue.

The weekend away at Viney Hill Christian Adventure Centre was particularly exciting and a number of the young people gave their lives to Christ for the first time or made significant steps forward in their journey to faith. Members of the different churches supported the project by offering food and catering help.

Since then there has been great sense of camaraderie built up amongst the teenagers and they have really benefitted from the Christian support network. We hope to repeat Youth Alpha again in 2012. Watch this space!
